George Writer & Lay Servant

For the disciple living a real life.

Over the years I have served in many capacities—seeing, learning, and continually asking honest questions. I still believe the Gospel has something steady to say to our restless, ordinary days.

THE HEART OF JOJJY

Faithfulness is rarely glamorous. Most of following Jesus is learning to walk steadily through hospital corridors, kitchen tables, and quiet Tuesday afternoons.

The Longer Story

Ordinary faith, written slowly.

I grew up in a small town where faith was simply part of the furniture: present, unremarkable, and quietly sustaining. From an early age I served in many capacities across church and community life, certain at twenty-six that I understood the Gospel. By thirty, I had discovered how little I knew about how it actually worked in a real life.

Over the years, serving alongside ordinary believers, I sat with friends at kitchen tables, walked through grief and quiet crises of faith, and kept observing. I saw, learned, and never stopped asking questions. I learned that the questions people carry in their hearts are rarely the ones they have the courage to ask on Sunday morning.

Eventually, my wife suggested I write down what I was learning. Not a theology textbook. Not a self-help manual. Just honest words for people trying to follow Jesus between the interruptions.

That is what Jojjy is — a personal publication of short, honest reflections. Short enough to read in a quiet moment. Long enough, I hope, to stay.

“The questions people carry in their hearts are rarely the ones they have the courage to ask on Sunday morning.”

Milestones

A steady progression.

Years of listening, serving, questioning, and learning to write what remains true.

1998

Stepping into service

Began serving in various ministry and community capacities. Years of hands-on involvement, quiet observation, and ordinary Tuesdays followed.

2004

Season of doubt

A difficult year that shattered easy answers and reshaped how I read Scripture, pray, and understand grace.

2011

Started keeping a journal

What began as private morning notes in a battered notebook eventually became the bedrock for these essays.

2021

A quiet writing desk

Settled at a wooden desk by a field to distill decades of serving, observing, and learning into focused essays.

2023

Launched Jojjy

The Sunday letter began with twelve readers and now reaches thousands of ordinary disciples seeking quiet truth.

What Shapes This Writing

Three convictions I write from.

Conviction 01

Rooted in Scripture

These essays are not self-help dressed in spiritual vocabulary. They begin with the Bible, not as an intellectual proof-text, but as a living word that walks beside us in grief, work, and praise.

Conviction 02

Grounded in everyday

Faith that cannot survive a sink of dirty dishes or a difficult conversation at work is a brittle thing. I write about following Jesus where we actually live: the commute, the kitchen, and the quiet Tuesday afternoon.

Conviction 03

Honest before God

I have no interest in presenting a tidier version of faith than I actually possess. God can be trusted with our exhaustion, our questions, and our half-finished prayers.
